Ikat
Ikat is a technique of dyeing. The warp threads are dyed into the pattern before they are woven, offering the possibility of a very lightweight fabric, giving the effect of a tapestry without the extra weft materials.
The resulting fabric makes for a great wall hanging or yardage for tailoring, I can incorporate metallic or even iridescent mylar fibers as the weft, without affecting the design, but giving a glimmer when the finished fabric moves. When lighted properly, these pieces can look like intricate beadwork.
